About Hold the Plastic

Replacing petroleum-based plastic food packaging with plant-based, renewable, biopolymers.

Our Mission

Hold the Plastic was organized to replace petroleum-based plastic food packaging with safe, renewable biopolymers. Plastic sheds. The microplastics from food packaging contaminate our food and beverages. Research has found plastics in the brain, reproductive organs, veins, everywhere. Links have been found between microplastics in the body and cancer, dementia, cardiovascular disease, and reproductive disorders. Hold the Plastic is dedicated to leading this inevitable transition from petro-plastic food packaging to natural, plant-based biopolymers.

Our Plan

We are dedicated to replacing petroleum-based plastic food packaging in every supermarket aisle. Hold the Plastic is beginning by replacing the plastic spout on baby food pouches. We will immediately focus on biopolymer bags for frozen foods, snacks, nuts, grains, legumes, etc. Plastic tubs for dairy products, convenience foods, and other products can also be replaced with plant-based biopolymers.

Our goal is to achieve price parity with petro-plastic food packaging, which may be accomplished with adequate volume.

The safety of our little ones is non-negotiable. Yet, traditional baby food packaging, especially pouches using petrochemical polymers such as PP (polypropylene), often provides caps and spouts in a range of eye-catching colors. They pose a hidden risk: direct exposure to microplastics. These tiny particles are in direct contact with the food, particularly when heated or stored for long periods, and enter our infants' mouths. Thus raising concerns about their impact on infants’ health. At Ecogenesis Biopolymers LLC, we believe in innovation that prioritizes safety and sustainability. That’s why we’re championing the use of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates), a family of non-toxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable polymers as the ideal solution as a direct replacement for these challenges. Ecogenesis Biopolymers LLC is proud to have been selected as the technical partner by Hold The Plastic and leading the work to transition, adapt, and validate the use of PHA for the end product.

WHY PHA'S?
• Non-Toxic: Free from harmful additives, ensuring no leaching of microplastics or chemicals into baby food.
• Biocompatible: Safe for direct contact with food, even for the most sensitive consumers, like our babies.
• Biodegradable: Breaks down naturally, reducing environmental pollution and the long-term impact of packaging waste.
THE PROBLEM WITH TRADITIONAL PACKAGING

Baby food pouches with PP caps and spouts are convenient, but they come with risks:

• Microplastic Migration: PP can shed microplastics, especially under heat or stress, which may enter the food chain.
• Environmental Persistence: PP is not biodegradable, contributing to long-term pollution.
• Teething Risks: As toddlers develop their teeth, they often inadvertently chew on spouts, increasing the risk of ingesting microplastics or harmful chemicals from PP materials.

HOLD THE PLASTIC SOLUTION!

By replacing PP with PHA-based materials, we can:

✅ Eliminate the risk of microplastic exposure for infants.
✅ Provide packaging that is safe, sustainable, and aligned with parents’ values.
✅ Support a circular economy with materials that break down harmlessly after use.
This isn’t just about packaging, it’s about protecting the next generation and the planet they’ll inherit.

We’re excited to be at the forefront of this change. Are you ready to join us in redefining safety and sustainability in baby food packaging?
